What am I safe to do? What are my strengths? What are my
Abilities?
The
Functional Capacity Evaluation answers these questions by
objectively measuring an individual’s level of ability to
perform functional tasks on a safe and dependable basis over
a defined period of time. Data is collected during the
assessment and analyzed by the Occupational Therapist in
order to establish the individual’s current level of
function in regards to their ability to perform a variety of
physically related tasks. This dynamic objective test uses
standardized testing, clinical observation and the Assess
Ability
software for selected physical tasks. This establishes the
individuals ability to perform these tasks. The resulting
frequencies can then be compared to the general worker in
the workforce and their compared ability to perform job
functions, The assessment includes: an examination of
pertinent clinical pathology, identification of client
behaviors that impact physical performance, objective
musculoskeletal, neuromuscular and biomechanical testing,
functional testing, and an assessment of effort.
Functional Capacity Evaluation testing can be used to
determine:
• Rehabilitation recommendations
• Abilities in relation to the physical demands of a
particular job or ability to work in general terms
• To establish an individuals predicted workday tolerance
• To establish the individual’s ability in relation to the
safe strenuousness level
• a comprehensive chart of physical tolerances for job
matching purposes
• return to work recommendations
