AMPS is
a performance evaluation that assesses both physical and
mental processing through observations of a client engaged
in activities of daily living.
The interpretations of the AMPS address the question: Does
the client have the necessary motor and process skills to
perform all daily living tasks effortlessly, efficiently,
safely and independently? The results also show the extent
to which the client has overcome residual
impairments/limitations by using alternative or compensatory
strategies during task performance.
This assessment has been standardized internationally and
offers 76 task choices that the therapist can offer the
client. The tasks range from cooking to cleaning to outside
lawn chores. AMPS provides the therapist a sensitive tool to
plan effective intervention and document change which is
essential for outcome measures.
